1. 🏦 Circle Files For IPO

   Circle, USDC’s issuer, filed to go public on the NYSE as CRCL. It made $1.67B in 2024 but profits fell due to high payments to Coinbase. Over 99% of revenue came from USDC reserves and remains the second-largest stablecoin behind Tether.

2. 📉 FDUSD Loses Its Peg

   FDUSD briefly depegged after Justin Sun claimed its issuer, First Digital, was insolvent. First Digital denied it, called it a smear campaign, and said FDUSD is fully backed. They plan legal action and reaffirmed their commitment to transparency using onchain proof of reserves.

3. 🔨 EigenLayer to Start Slashing Restakers in April

   EigenLayer will launch slashing on April 17 taking its final step toward a full restaking model. This upgrade lets node operators opt in to be penalized for poor performance but rewarded for good service. Over 30 AVSs already use EigenLayer, which aims to secure Web3 apps and later expand beyond crypto.

4. 🔜 Paul Atkins Moves Closer to SEC Chair Role

   Paul Atkins is one step closer to leading the SEC after the Senate Banking Committee approved his nomination in a 13–11 vote. Picked by Trump to replace Gary Gensler, Atkins is expected to bring more crypto friendly policies.

5. 🇺🇸 US Lawmakers Push Forward Anti-CBDC Bill

   The US House Financial Services Committee passed bills to regulate stablecoins and block federal banks from issuing CBDCs. The CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act was approved 27-22, with broad support, aiming to prevent the Federal Reserve from creating a digital dollar.

Narrative Of The Week: Liberation Day

President Trump’s tariff policy announcement triggered market swings and raised concerns about inflation and a potential global trade war. Here’s the breakdown:

The Tariff Bombshell: Trump’s Reciprocal Tariffs Liberation Day unveiled a 10% baseline tariff on all imports, with increased tariffs for countries like China (34%) and the EU (20%). These tariffs are set to go live on April 9, 2025, aiming to address trade imbalances and boost U.S. manufacturing.

Market Reaction: The immediate fallout saw U.S. stocks tumble, Dow down 4%, S&P 500 dropped 5%, and Nasdaq fell 6%. Global indices like Japan’s Nikkei and European markets also suffered. The stock market recorded it’s worst day over the last 4 years.

Crypto Impact: Bitcoin dropped 3.9%, and ether fell 5.2%, alongside crypto stocks like Coinbase losing 7.7%.

These tariffs could fuel inflation and increase the risk of a recession. However, the long term outlook for crypto keeps getting brighter. If the economy shows signs of cracking, the FED is likely to step in to prevent a full-blown recession
